- When Siraj-ud-daula came to power in Bengal the Britishers were worried about his position because he was a strict ruler. He was seeing it clearly that the British east India company is not paying the levied taxes and charges completely to them. Siraj-ud-daula also sent warnings to the company about this. As a result, there were a lot of conflicts running constantly at the same time since long. Britishers were not happy with the nawab of Bengal.

- Due to these conflicts the British east India company wanted the ruler of Bengal as a puppet rural for them. On the other hand, Siraj-ud-daula clearly said that if the company wants to do trade practices then they need to pay the due taxes.
- Also, he did not want the Britishers to construct any palace in India and stop fortification. Company wanted a puppet ruler so they could be exempted from the tax payment for trade, also to construct forts and take control over the regions of india.
- Siraj-ud-daula was frustrated from the behavior of the east India company and asked the company directly to stop interfering in his political affairs, stop fortification, and pay revenues but the negotiations between the company and Siraj-ud-daula failed. There were not any conclusions coming out from the negotiations and both of them were against each other.
- Now nawab marched with his 30000 soldiers to the English factory at Kasim Bazar, and there he captured some company officials and locked the warehouse. Also, Siraj-ud-daula disarmed all the Englishmen and barricaded all the ships of England that were moving for trade. Additionally, nawab also went to Calcutta to establish his control over the company’s fortification. These all activities became the triggering factors for the battle of Plassey.
- As a result, the east India company started retaliation and sent their troops under the command of Robert clive to recapture Bengal. Finally, in 1757, Robert clive led his troops against Siraj-ud-daula at Plassey. Siraj-ud-daula lost the battle and the causing reason for this defeat was the betrayal of mir Jafar. Mir jafar was the commander in the army of Siraj-ud-daula. He betrayed the nawab of Bengal by not participating in the battle of Plassey.

- He was also bribed by Robert clive as clive promised him that he will make him the next nawab of Bengal if mir Jafar will help them in defeating Siraj-ud-daula in the battle.
Siraj-ud-daula lost the battle due to a lack of forces and troopers as his commander did not followed him and betrayed him on the battlefield. As a result, they made mir Jafar their puppet ruler for them and due to this there was a shift of power from mir Jafar to the Britishers. The central authority went into the hands of the British east India company.
